Healthy Smoke-Free Homes: Being Prepared Starts at Home
September is National Preparedness Month, a time to think about how we can keep our families and homes safe. California leaders encourage families and communities to make plans, stay informed and prepare together.
At The SOL Project, we believe being prepared also means keeping the air inside our homes safe.
Secondhand smoke can move from one apartment or unit to another through doors, walls, cracks and air systems. There is no safe level of exposure. Thirdhand smoke is the harmful residue left on walls, floors, furniture, clothing and other surfaces after smoking. It can remain for a long time. Children are especially at risk because they crawl, play and touch these surfaces.
That is why our Empowering Local Communities work advocates for smoke-free multi-unit housing in apartments, condos and duplexes in Sacramento County, Elk Grove and Citrus Heights. Smoke-free homes help protect children, older adults, pets and our entire community.
Residents and property managers can help make Healthy Smoke-Free Homes a priority.

Keeping the home safe means keeping the air smoke-free, too!
