SMOKE IS SMOKE: New Fact Sheet Breaks Down the Truth About Smoking and Vaping

For the past six months, the African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council (AATCLC) and The SOL Project have been hard at work together. Now, they are releasing a new “SMOKE IS SMOKE” Fact Sheet to help our communities better understand the dangers of smoking and vaping.

The message is simple: Your lungs can’t tell the difference. Cigarettes, vapes and e-cigarettes, marijuana joints, cigars and blunts, and hookah can expose people to harmful substances. The fact sheet explains health risks that include cancer, heart disease, lung damage, and a higher risk of stroke.

It also talks about protecting families from secondhand and thirdhand smoke and supporting smoke-free apartments, homes, parks, and outdoor spaces. Readers can also learn important facts about cigars, blunts, hookah, vaping, and the risks of smoking or vaping during pregnancy.

And there is more to come! AATCLC and The SOL Project will continue this community education work in Fall 2026.
