Good News for Expectant Mothers: Maternal Care Benefits Under Medi-Cal Remain Strong and Unchanged
The SOL Project is committed to keeping our community informed—especially expectant mothers, new parents, and families who rely on critical maternal health services. As questions continue to surface about changes to Medi-Cal, we want to reassure pregnant women and birthing families that maternal care services under Medi-Cal have not changed. All essential benefits—including prenatal care, postpartum care, doula support, and midwifery services—remain fully covered for those who qualify.
This clarity is especially important as The SOL Project launches its Maternal Smoking Cessation Initiative (2025–2027), aimed at supporting Black pregnant and parenting individuals who smoke or vape. Access to consistent maternal care—including doulas and midwives—is a key part of protecting the health of mothers and babies, and we want our community to know that Medi-Cal continues to provide those vital resources without interruption.
As we work with local partners, healthcare providers, and our Community Advisory Board to develop culturally centered cessation support, we encourage families to stay engaged with their prenatal providers and make use of the services available to them. Smoke-free pregnancies save lives, and strong maternal care systems make that journey safer, healthier, and more supported.
The SOL Project will continue to provide updates, education, and resources throughout the duration of this initiative. For questions about cessation support, doula services, or how to get involved in our research project, please visit TheSOLProject.com or contact our team directly.
Together, we are building healthier futures for Black mothers, babies, and families.
