Stockton Youth Organizing Bootcamp: Guiding Future Leaders in Tobacco Prevention
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, SOL’s Advancing Momentum Project was able to attend and present at Concrete Development Inc.’s (CDI) Youth Organizing Bootcamp.
25 youth from local organizations such as CDI’s Emerge, Live Free CA, Public Health Advocates, and Little Manila Rising, spent the day learning about the foundations of advocacy and organizing, how to identify issues they care about in the community, and how their interests can become impact. We had the opportunity to hear from staff representing Assemblywoman Rhodesia Ransom and Representative Josh Harder’s office, and ask questions about how to make sure community needs are being met.
Community Engagement Coordinator, Anissa Adams, was able to present on targeting marketing by the tobacco industry, the dangers of smoking and vaping, and how to drive change. Many youth participants shared their experiences with peers becoming addicted, and felt empowered to make sure that their generation would be safe from the harms of tobacco and new emerging products.
Thank you to CDI and participating organizations for the opportunity to show youth how to step into their power. We are grateful and excited to see the next generation of leaders in action, and to participate in the next bootcamp!
