Congratulations to Advancing Momentum’s Community Engagement Award Recipients!
by Twlia Laster, Project Director @ The SOL Project
We are proud to support these incredible organizations and trusted community leaders through the Community Engagement Award (CEA) program. These awards provide funding to help integrate smoke-free advocacy and education efforts into the impactful work these organizations are already leading throughout their communities.
By investing in community-rooted organizations, SOL hopes to expand local leadership, strengthen health education, and support healthier, smoke-free environments across Sacramento and Stockton. Each organization was funded $1,500!!
The awarded organizations include:
Keep Going Sis – Confidence to Success: Tobacco Prevention Youth Leadership Initiative
To integrate tobacco prevention education and advocacy into the existing Confidence to Success youth empowerment program, which supports African American youth through leadership development, mentorship, and life skills education sessions in Sacramento, CA
Feed Sacramento Homeless – The Bigger Picture Mentor Program
To combat tobacco industry targeting and reduce tobacco and marijuana related harms, The Bigger Picture Mentor Program will engage youth through culturally relevant education, advocacy, and digital awareness campaigns designed to address targeted marketing practices, promote prevention, and empower youth to share prevention messages with their peers, families, and the broader community. Sacramento, CA
San Joaquin Juneteenth Foundation – Youth Matter, Arts Matter: Say No Campaign
Participants will participate in a music and film camp to learn how tobacco and vaping industries disproportionately impact their communities. The Youth will then create a 10-minute anti-smoking film featuring an original soundtrack, which will premiere at a community block party and the Stockton Juneteenth 50th Annual Gala Celebration. Stockton, CA
Hart 2 Hart – Breath Free Stockton Community Outreach
To conduct a community outreach event that provides cessation resources and tobacco health education materials to underserved populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, to increase awareness of the health risks associated with tobacco use, vaping, marijuana use, and emerging smoking products.
We are excited to partner with these organizations as they integrate tobacco education and advocacy into the incredible work they are already doing throughout Sacramento and Stockton. Together, we look forward to uplifting community leadership while advancing smoke-free futures.
Congratulations again to all Advancing Momentum Community Engagement Award recipients!
